How to Use “Chaos” Parameter in Midjourney (AI Prompt Guide)
As I dig more into Midjourney – which was super flippin' intimidating for a non-techy person like me, btw – I find more and more prompt parameters that can influence outputs.
Today, I was introduced to the –chaos parameter.
Lower –chaos values create more reliable results while high –chaos values create more unexpected – or, chaotic – results. Imagine that. ๐
Why do we want to use the –chaos parameter, though? That's a great question. I know I learn by seeing, so let me show you some examples that show how chaos can give you more options while creating.
Let's create some –chaos in Midjourney
First thing's first, when you're using the chaos values, you aren't actually typing “–chaos” – you will type “–c” and then a space, and a number.
Just like with aspect ratios; you don't type “aspect ratio 3:2” you type “–ar 3:2” so make sure you write that down if you're prone to forget! We have a Midjourney values cheat sheet coming out soon – stay tuned for that. In the meantime you can watch our Midjourney tutorials on YouTube.
Pssst… don't miss our Midjourney aspect ratio tutorial while you're here!
If you're looking for ways to brainstorm creatively and are hitting a brick wall, adding some chaos to your prompts may help! We'd love to see your results over in our Facebook group!
Note: I'm using Midjourney v5 to get these outputs.
Prompt without chaos: Black woman, celestial, moon and stars, magical mystical, 4k –ar 3:2
Prompt with 50 chaos: Black woman, celestial, moon and stars, magical mystical, 4k –ar 3:2 –c 50
Prompt with 100 chaos: Black woman, celestial, moon and stars, magical mystical, 4k –ar 3:2 –c 100
Prompt without chaos: childrens storybook illustration, young girl, sailing, moon in the background, stars, flat illustration –ar 3:2
Prompt with 50 chaos: childrens storybook illustration, young girl, sailing, moon in the background, stars, flat illustration –ar 3:2
Prompt with 100 chaos: childrens storybook illustration, young girl, sailing, moon in the background, stars, flat illustration –ar 3:2
Notice how different each of the options is with chaos 50, and then even more with chaos 100!
Sometimes the –c 100 seems to get way off base, while other times it gives me amazing ideas for my next prompts.
Using the –c parameter is a great way to get 4 completely different images if you aren't sure what you're looking for, without having to do 4 separate prompts! ๐
